It is alarming to think that the leading cause of deaths in
America below the age of 45 is brain injury. Now how do they
get brain injury?
It i caused mostly by vehicular accidents, falls and it
happens during sports where players get head injuries.
There are actually different types of head injuries which
can lead to brain injuries. One is direct trauma. This is when
the brain collides with the inside of the hard skull. The skull
is not fractured in any way but it can cause a contusion to the
brain and hemorrhage. This happens during a vehicular accident
when the head strikes the steering wheel. Second is indirect
trauma. The perfect example of this is Shaken Baby Syndrome
where severe shaking can cause damages to the nerve cells. It
can cause injury or death. Third is diffuse axonal injury. This
just means that there is severe sudden twisting to the brain.
It usually occurs because of whiplash. The fourth type of head
injury is toxic substance exposure. This is when the person is
exposed to toxic chemicals such as lead, toluene, carbon
monoxide and others.
This just goes to show us how we can get brain injury. So we
should take extra precaution each and every time we go out. We
should drive safely, never drink and drive. Wear the required
head gear whenever we do sports and others.

As our world is becoming more and more technology-driven,
people are tending to flock to one place first when they need
help with anything–the world wide web. And why shouldn’t
they?
The collection of information on the web is gargantuan! It
is a network of thousands upon thousands of computers, full of
data and connected to every type of business. In terms of
litigation, every type of attorney advertises this way: back
injury lawyers, employer liability lawyers, and so on. If you
are an attorney and need to market the skills of your firm,
then the internet should be your first consideration.
Having a company web page for your law firm is a
monumentally simple and lightning-fast way to attract clients.
Here are a couple of tips on how to attract business:
Keep your content fresh Continually
updating the content of your web site help it gain priority in
the search engines and could get your company recognized
faster. One way to do this would be to constantly add articles
to reflect the changing trends of your area. You might offer
articles on specific cases dealing with back injury, worker’s
compensation, sexual harassment, malpractice, wills and trusts,
divorce settlements, and anything else your firm is currently
working on. Very often clients will be led to your site after
doing a web search on a certain legal topic. The more variety
you have in your content, the more varied your clientele will
be and the more business you will get.
Distribute Links to Your Site One easy way
to attract clients on the web is to make sure you have as many
links to your site as possible out there on other sites. Just
like fishing, the more hooks you have out in the water, the
more likely you are to catch something. You can do this by
offering to submit some of your articles to other companies
that deal with similar topics in exchange for having them link
to your company on their web site.
Using other means of advertising is still a good idea, but
if you are a back injury lawyer, or any other type of lawyer,
marketing your law firm on the internet is essential to
compete. All major businesses advertise on the internet now and
if you choose not to participate in this way of marketing, then
you are doomed to fail or remain mediocre as a business.

All skull fractures are caused by extreme force to the head
except in those occurring in babies under 3 months old. In
addition to the skull itself being fractured, a host of other
injuries usually results from such a blow to the head.
Usually it is accompanied by brain damage due to the impact
of the injury or from blood clots resulting from it. These
injuries vary among different age groups because the skull is
made up of separate bones that fuse together after time and
then calcify.
The bones of the skull are very strong and resilient. Our
skulls keep our brains very well protected. Studies have shown
that it takes a force of 400 to 700Kg for less than 0.001 of a
second to cause a fracture. If the impact is slower than this,
the head will move. In very young children more force can be
applied to the skull without fracturing it because the bones
that make it up have not yet fused together and the elastic
sutures that hold the bones together will flex. It will still
become deformed under such a force and brain damage will
probably result but the bones will not fracture.
Two types of skull fractures may occur: linear and compound.
A linear fracture will result in swelling of the scalp
accompanied by a miscellaneous array of neurological symptoms
and any of differing levels of consciousness. In a compound
fracture, you might see spinal fluid leakage or even brain
matter coming through the wound. Most of the time these types
of fractures will show up on an x-ray but those occurring at
the base of the skull may not, and in this case, must be
detected by pneumocephaly and air-fluid levels present in the
frontal or stenoid sinuses.
Since there are many different types of skull fractures
depending on the angle of impact, these injuries are classified
into the following categories:
* Linear, or displaced (depressed or elevated) skull
fractures. Presents swelling of the scalp and varied levels of
consciousness
* Simple or compound Very risky for infection, may cause
unconsciousness and seizures
* Base of skull or vault fractures.
Studies show that most skull fractures occur in children
under the age of 3 and that most of these are caused by
injuries suffered at birth, falls from high places, or violent
parental abuse.

One of the most frequent types of accidents in the United
States concerns an automobile. Some automobile accidents are
very minor and no property is even damaged at all.
But in many accidents involving vehicles, more than just
property is damaged, and seriously. Automobile accidents can
result is a number of very serious injuries, and many are
fatal. At high speeds, bones can be broken, spinal cords could
be injured, and head trauma can even occur. Any accident
involving a vehicle has the potential to be life-changing or
life-threatening. In any case, you should hire a lawyer who
specializes in the type of injury that you have sustained as a
result of your accident. For example, spinal cord injury
lawyers exist that concentrate on spinal cord injuries, their
impacts on people’s lives, and the compensations that can be
negotiated for spinal cord injury victims.
If you hire a competent spinal cord injury attorney, then
you may be able to receive compensation for all fees, or have
your fees reduced a great deal, in terms of dealing with the
litigation costs, stress of the legal process, medical bills,
rehabilitation costs, costs of adapting to a new lifestyle,
fees for special equipment and a number of other charges that
the spinal cord attorney will be aware of. Attorneys are
trained to be experts at negotiations and are experienced in
settling for their clients to the maximum extent possible. Just
be sure that your attorney is trustworthy and competent and
your litigation will be infinitely more beneficial to you.
Many injury lawyers can be found on the world wide web, so
there is a very large network of options to choose from. Your
local bar association can also help you find a good spinal cord
injury lawyer or other type of injury lawyer to represent you
in your accident claim. They will be able to tell you if the
attorney you choose is trustworthy and give you a summary of
that attorney’s experience and reputation.

The spinal cord is the link between the brain and almost all
of the organs in the human body. Even the slightest spinal
injury can be fatal or have severe and irreversible
ramifications like paralysis.
The spinal cord is what carries the messages that our brain
sends to our muscles and other organs to tell them what they
should be doing. Whenever you tap your fingers or bend your
knee, the signal travels from your brain to your spinal cord
and along its pathways to the part of the body you want to
move. When this system is damaged, it’s like a traffic accident
that nothing can get around. The signals may be able to get
through to a certain point or they may be shut down
entirely.
If the damage occurs in the cervical or thoracic portion of
the spine, there’s a very high risk of paralysis. If the damage
occurs lower on the spine, in the lumbar or sacral regions, the
victim could potentially suffer partial paralysis, numbness,
incontinence, and loss of bowel control. This is why some
people with spinal cord injury have varying degrees of
movement.
Currently, the spinal cord is such a fragile part of the
body that there is nothing medical professionals can do to
treat its injuries. All they can do right now is treat the pain
that the victims suffer and try to stop further damage from
spreading. There are some emerging adaptive technologies that
can help people with certain kinds of spinal cord paralysis to
achieve certain daily living functions depending on their
remaining abilities but there is no way to actually heal the
spinal cord.
Current laws exist to ensure that victims of spinal cord
injury can obtain monetary compensation for the damages that
they have suffered through the insurance companies of liable
parties. This usually includes compensation to damage or loss
of property and medical expenses resulting from the accident
that caused the injury.
Most victims of spinal cord injury seek qualified and
reliable legal representation from a personal injury attorney
to help them receive justice in this situation because most
victims do not know all of their rights and what they are
entitled to nor how to represent themselves in an injury claim.
A personal injury attorney knows how to advocate for the rights
of such victims and can use the law to minimize the suffering
caused by spinal injury.

Severe head injury can happen many different ways. You could
be in a motor vehicle collision, take a nasty fall, or bang
heads with someone at a sporting event. This is a very common
injury that many people suffer every year.
The severity of the injury can be very hard to determine and
can be quite expensive as it involves X-rays, Magnetic
Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT) scans,
Cerebrospinal fluid analysis, and other methods of testing. If
you are lucky, you just injure the skull and skin but
sometimes, the brain can be injured by a severe head injury.
There are two main types of injury the brain can sustain from a
severe head injury. There are closed-skull injuries
such as a concussion, blow to the head, or fall that don’t
cause the skull to be penetrated by anything. There are also
skull penetrating injuries where any type of object or
even pieces of the skull itself are pushed into the brain.
One of the most common types of severe head injury is the
concussion. This is when something hits your head causing the
brain to be pushed against the skull. Sometimes there is a
whiplash effect that causes the brain to hit one side of the
skull and then the other. Though common, a concussion can
sometimes lead to a traumatic brain injury. This is a
closed-skull injury so it is almost impossible to judge on
outward appearance alone. All forceful blows to the head should
be followed by a trip to a hospital or doctors office so it can
be evaluated, especially if there is any dizziness or prolonged
headache. Traumatic brain injury can result from a concussion
if it isn’t detected and treated immediately. Death can occur
if an aneurysm (or aneurism) which is an abnormal bulge in the
wall of a blood vessel, ruptures.
A skull penetrating injury can be much more serious than a
closed-skull injury depending on what object penetrates the
skull and if it reaches the brain or not. The skull is fairly
strong and there is a small space between the skull and brain
so, if they are lucky, the object won’t actually touch the
brain. If it does, however, depending on the location and the
severity, permanent brain damage may occur.
The best way to avoid a severe head injury is to wear a
helmet or hard hat when working in a dangerous environment or
engaging in dangerous activities. Bicyclists and skateboarders
have a great risk of falling and sustaining a severe head
injury and some places have passed helmet laws for these
sports. Public facilities also usually require helmets. You can
never be too safe when it comes to your head so it’s a good
idea to wear a helmet while on family bike rides as it
encourages your children to wear a helmet also.

If you have gotten injured in an accident, you need to make
sure you find a good, skilled personal injury lawyer. Personal
injury lawyers are all very different from one another and if
you choose a bad lawyer, depending on the severity of the
injury, you might lose a great deal of money.
You should look around and find a personal injury lawyer
that will take your case with no money up front and who will
advance you all of the expenses that will be involved in your
case. These expenses vary depending on your case but typically
involve filing fees, accessing records, getting expert
testimony and reports, and deposition costs. Depending on how
severe your injury is, these costs could possibly exceed ten
thousand dollars. If the attorney won’t make that type of
investment into your case, they might not be the best choice.
The attorney might not be able to afford it or might feel your
case isn’t strong enough. In that situation, you should
continue looking for a better lawyer.
Many lawyers use a contingency plan which means they don’t
get paid unless you get paid. This can be through a verdict
after a trial but usually is a settlement. Most personal injury
lawyers use this method as their clients are usually unable to
work or have spent their own money on medical care while
looking for a lawyer. You need to pay special attention to the
retainer agreement you make. Make sure you agree to all the
extra fees and make sure they are stated up front so you don’t
have to pay later for something you didn’t know about. A
typical contingency plan gives the lawyer about 1/3 of any
settlement amount as well as any expenses the lawyer has paid
for in advance. Be wary if the lawyer wants more than 1/3 of
your settlement or verdict amount.
You should get a free initial consultation so that the
lawyer can get to know all the facts and details that were
involved with your accident. Make sure you ask a lot of
questions because you will want to know everything you can
about what the lawyer will do. You can get an estimated time
your case will take and how much your attorney feels the case
might be worth. No legal professional can know the exact amount
of time a case will take or know the exact amount you will
receive but an experienced lawyer can make an educated guess
based on previous cases.
Just because you retain a lawyer doesn’t mean you have to
keep them. If you feel they aren’t doing their job properly,
are overcharging you, or you just don’t like them, you can fire
them at any time and get a new one. The old attorney might put
out a lien that will come out of a new attorney’s share of a
settlement so you should try to pick the best one possible the
first time.

One of the leading causes of severe brain injury among
toddlers is shaken baby syndrome (SBS). This injury is caused
by a whiplash effect that occurs when an infant or small child
is shaken.
Even if it’s only for a couple seconds, permanent damage
might occur. Babies have large heads in proportion to their
bodies and their neck muscles and ligaments aren’t fully
developed so their head really flops around. If a young child
is shaken violently and get abusive ead trauma, their brain may
bounce off of the inside of the skull and sustain all types of
damage. There could be bruising, hemorrhaging (bleeding), or
scraping and cutting of the brain tissue. The inside of the
skull is very rough so if the brain moves against it, damage is
likely to occur.
Toddlers are clumsy by nature as they haven’t been walking
for very long. Once they learn to run, the dangers of them
getting a head injury increases a lot. Toddlers tend to not
watch where they are going and many times have the potential to
smack their heads on all kinds of household objects such as
coffee tables, open drawers, wooden couch parts, ottomans, and
almost any corner of every wall in your house. Young children
fall down quite often and don’t quite have the reflexes to
cover their head and face. This is why you see toddlers with
big lumps on their foreheads and scrapes on their faces. It can
be hard to keep an eye on a toddler all the time as they are
running and playing constantly.
As babies get better at running, jumping, and climbing,
their chances of getting a head injury increase but at the same
time, they are getting smarter and really don’t like to fall
down. A good way to keep your toddler from getting a head
injury is to teach them to put their hands up if they fall, and
try to fall onto their hands if they can. You should keep
stairs blocked with a baby gate and make sure siblings follow
rules like “No hitting or throwing “. This can be difficult if
not impossible to enforce all the time, but if you do your best
and use encouragement, you should be able to stop siblings from
fighting a little.
Toddlers sustain closed-skull injuries much more than
penetrating skull injuries. This is mostly due to falling and
running into things. My brother loved to run into the coffee
table at full speed after rounding a corner. He got the
nickname “Lumpy” from this behavior as a couple times in one
month he did it and would have a huge knot on his forehead. We
eventually put the table on the back deck so he wouldn’t
sustain any brain damage. Luckily, toddlers don’t have the
ability to move as fast as adults so when they fall or trip,
they are usually going pretty slowly to begin with. Toddlers
are also very short so the distance from their head to the
ground isn’t that much.
